If you haven’t been following this blog, you should know that we have been keeping a large list of GPS apps for iPhone that you can use to help you get to your destination. But there are just so many of them around, so it’s hard to distinguish the premium high-end apps from every other simple little app you’ll see in iTunes. So what do I mean by “premium GPS apps?” Those iPhone apps that provide you with a similar navigation experience as what you would get with a standalone GPS device. If you are planning to use your iPhone as your main GPS, here are 13 iPhone navigation apps you should try:

TomTom GPS: TomTom doesn’t need any introduction. The company has decided to move into the iPhone business to protect or improve its market-share. Great app and does look familiar to those who have used TomTom GPS devices before. The new updates have made this app one to own.

Garmin Streetpilot: Garmin Streetpilot for iPhone comes with updated maps, text to speech, lane assistance, traffic updates and other features we have all come to love in Garmin GPS devices.

Magellan Roadmate 2010: if you have owned the hardware from Magellan, you are probably familiar with the look and feel of the software on those units. This app looks very similar to what you have seen. Comes with text to speech, lane assistance, and more. It will have its own kit as well or so it seems.

MobileNavigator: the best navigation app for iPhone at this point. It provides you with all those good old features we used to get with Navigon GPS devices. Great way to use your iPhone as your main GPS.

iGO My Way 09: another highly powerful GPS app for iPhone. The graphics are superb and the directions are easy to follow. There is just too much information available on its maps.

CoPilot Live: may not be as pricey as some of the above apps, but it does come with tons of features and excellent maps. It’s truly a great travel assistant. Gives you a great bang for your buck.

Navigon MyRegion for iPhone: if you are not ready to pay for MobileNavigator, MyRegion gives you the chance to get the very best features Navigon GPS has to offer only for the region that you will spend most your time in.

G-Map US & Canada: comes with stunning graphics. It also supports traffic updates and provides you with text-to-speech functionality. Not very expensive either.

Mobile Maps America: one of the first GPS apps made for the iPhone platform. It comes with a ton of features to help you find your around and stay on the right track. It’s a bit pricey but comes with cool maps, easy to follow directions, and much more. Not as good as the first two apps though.

Gokivo GPS: the pound of pound best app on the list. It costs you a fraction what the other apps do on this list. But it does come with the proper features to help you get to your destination fast (voice guidance, maps, …).

NDrive GPS: if you are looking for an international GPS on your iPhone, NDrive GPS apps come in handy. Plenty of countries are covered.

GPS Kit: not your everyday GPS. It’s designed for those who intend to spend time outdoors. Helps you keep track of your adventures as well.

Mappy Navigation France: if you happen to be planning to spend some time in France and want a GPS software to help you get around, Mappy Navigation France has you covered. Has 190,000 places you can search through and great graphics help too.
There you have it. 13 cool premium GPS apps that come with killer maps and features. If you are planning to get on the road and are worried about not knowing your way around, these apps come in handy.
