Garmin Sends Mixed News...

Garmin has been one of the best GPS makers around for as far as we can remember. It has some of the best standalone GPS devices (and a ton of niche GPS units). There is no question that GPS makers have been struggling to increase profits (mostly due to the unfavorable financial states around the globe). Garmin has been affected by the recession too. The company’s profits have dropped by 17% since last year. Considering that Garmin has sold more units and made more revenue, this is a mixed piece of news to say the least.

Garmin is still relevant and will continue to stay relevant for the foreseeable future. It may have failed to get going with its Android phones. The company does face increased competition from smart phone makers. It’s not clear how Garmin can turn this around without biting the bitter pill and targeting devices such as iPhone (numbers courtesy of WSJ):
